Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Very often, an enduring Broadway musical will be staged by school drama departments long after the production first graced the Great White Way. It is extremely rare, however, that the reverse is true, where a show will begin as a school performance and then, later, make its way to the West End and New York. Nevertheless, that is precisely the case with Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Originally commissioned in 1968 as a performance piece for the Colet Court prep school in London, the show was later expanded into a highly successful musical. Based on the Old Testament story of Joseph, the production features music by the songwriting team of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. It has been performed all around the world and, of course, is still a very popular school production.
