One the most beloved musicals of all time, Rodgers & Hammersteins The Sound of Music has been delighting audiences for decades. The musical is a fictionalized account of the life of the Trapp Family Singers and their escape from Austria after the Nazi Anschluss in 1938. It opened at Broadways Lunt-Fontanne theater on November 16, 1959 and ran for 1,443 performances. The following year, it won the Tony for Best Musical. Many of the shows songs have become standards, including Do-Re-Mi, So Long Farwell, My Favorite Things and the title theme.
