Vogel by Schimmel Grand Pianos
Vogel pianos are made completely by Schimmel, combining the skills of Schimmel owned and operated factories in Braunschweig, Germany and Kalisz, Poland. Unlike some other prestigious makers, Schimmel do not contract out the building of their upper mid-range offering, preferring to retain complete control over quality, both in design and manufacture. The Vogel name comes both from the Leipzig manufacturer ‘Vogel & Sohn’ where Wilhelm Schimmel learned his craft in 1882 (3 years before establishing Schimmel), and from Hannes Schimmel-Vogel who now heads the Schimmel company and is largely responsible for the company’s carefully planned expansion.
The quality of Vogel instruments owes a great deal to the use of Schimmel parts from Barunschweig including the Schimmel action, keyboards and soundboards. Vogel pianos also benefit from the use of very select materials including spruce resonance wood originating from higher mountainous regions and also hammer-heads and strings which have been made in Germany.
In 2011, Schimmel has paid particular attention to the Vogel line-up, launching new models and making improvements to existing ones. These instruments bring the renowned qualities of European piano manufacture to a mid-range market and should be viewed by anybody seeking a quality instrument.
