Forsyths have been supplying Manchester with classical instruments since the 1850s, so if you’re looking for a classical instrument - whether as a first timer or a seasoned professional - we should make a pretty good first point of call.

Violins, violas, cellos and basses

With several experienced string players on the staff along with our staff luthier, we’re able to offer an extensive range of string instruments and accessories. Our Forsyth range of violins, violas and cellos are made to our specifications in the Czech Republic and China, and set up in store when they arrive with us. The Chinese models are excellent value for money, and we supply these models to the junior string project at Royal Northern College of Music. The Czech models are aimed at the advanced amateur and semi pro player, and are beautiful hand crafted instruments. Also in stock are numerous examples of new and antique handmade instruments, along with student models by Stentor and Zeller. We offer a full repair service, and of course strings and accessories are all catered for.

Woodwind

Forsyth are one of the country’s largest Trevor James dealers, with the full range of Trevor James and production Miyazawa flutes in stock. We also carry student instruments by Yamaha, Prelude and Elkhardt, and professional flutes by Sankyo, Muramatsu and Altus. We carry a range of clarinets including Yamaha, Buffet, Le Blanc and Prelude, oboes by  Yamaha and Howarth and a large ranger of saxophones by Trevor James, Yamaha, Prelude, Selmer and Antigua. Reeds and accessories are all available from the second floor department or mail order.

Brass

A full range of student brass instruments are available, with trumpets, cornets, trombones, flugel horns, tenor horns, french horns and euphoniums all in stock. Brands include Yamaha, Prelude, Elkhardt, Bach and Besson. A range of accessories and mouthpieces are also available.
