Oahu 1930s Hawaiian Parlour Guitar Front Oahu 1930s Hawaiian Parlour Guitar Back

Oahu 1930s Hawaiian Parlour

Oahu 1930s Hawaiian Parlour

Oahu were a major US publishing house capitalising on the huge popularity of Hawaiian lap steel guitar playing, supplying guitars primarily in a package with tutor courses. Their instruments were built by a number of Chicago manufacturers, primarily Regal, Harmony and Stromberg – Voisinet; and whilst we can’t swear to it we’re inclined towards Regal for this particular one. Many of Oahu’s instruments were made as square necked lap guitars, but for those who couldn’t make their mind up which way to hold the guitar they also supplied round necked models with metal nut adaptors to raise the action to suit lap playing. Ours is one such example, and still has its nut raiser tucked away in the case should you fancy going Hawaiian. It’s made of solid Mahogany throughout, and is surprisingly loud and full sounding with slide and fingers alike. It’s in very good condition for its age. There’s a tendency for transverse braced guitars to develop a distortion of the soundboard around the bridge, and there’s a small hump behind the bridge of this one, but all perfectly stable and not particularly noticable. There’s also one small repaired back crack. A period correct case is supplied.
