Gibson ES-335 2006
The classic Gibson thin-line in sumptuous cherry. The wooden bits
are absolutely immaculate – we can’t find a mark on it. The
hardware is suffering from the common problem of Gibson’s nickel
plating dissolving when it comes into contact with human sweat, but
it doesn’t look too bad and the nicest flamed Maple we’ve seen
on a 335 for a fair while more than makes up for it.
Includes the original hard case, also in immaculate
condition.

Fender Stratocaster c1976
This one's for those of you who like your bumps and
scratches created by life on the road rather sanded in by the
guys in the Fender custom shop. Classic 70s Fender looks with
the chubby headstock, Rosewood veneered fingerboard and black
scratch plate, whilst the hard-tail bridge and high output
pickups make this a tough sounding guitar ideal for blues and
hard rock. All original with some wear to the finish but no
issues or repairs, and it's not as back-breaking as some 70s
Fenders.
The guitar came to us in the world's ugliest hard
case, which we'll be happy to pass on to you.

1980 Rickenbacker
330 Fireglo
Another fine vintage electric for you. This splendid chap has
seen a lot as a regularly gigged guitar for many years - and
yet has escaped unscathed for the most part. The odd dink
where you would expect dinks to be, the finish chipped on the
back of the neck but professionally smoothed over. It has
recently been refretted and set up and so is playing
beautifully and the sound is just so, as only a Rickenbacker
can be.
The same leniancy of wear did not however extend to the case
which appears to have born the brunt of this guitars gigging
existence. It is supplied for you to admire and muse on the
shenanigans that left it in such a state.

1981 Fender
Precision Special Bass (Definitely second hand)
An
instrument full of character, it enjoyed a long and rewarding
career as a trusty workhorse until the inevitable passage of
time and constraints of 'real' life led to its retirement.
Despite its careworn exterior this is still a bass with a
bright future. Solidly
built with ash body, maple neck and rosewood veneer
fingerboard this is an early example of a Precision bass with
active electronics - an attempt to increase the versatility of
the single pickup. You have a micro-switch to swap between
active and passive mode with bass and treble tone controls and
master volume. In passive mode it is exactly what you would
expect of a precision with full and thumping tone but with the
active circuitry engaged you have a much wider world of sound
to inhabit from trebles bright enough to blind to bass
frequencies that could rumble the thickest custard. It plays
beautifully with a smooth and pleasant action. A terrific, all
original, example of a classic instrument.
The
guitar came to us in the world's heaviest hard case, we
recommend that you bring a fork-lift truck if wishing to
purchase.

2003 Gibson
Les Paul Standard
Ok,
we don’t really need to bore you with the details on this
one. It’s a cherry sunburst Les Paul, the recent reissue
with correct binding and ‘Burstbucker pickups, 60's neck
profile and a lovely flame on the top. Very tidy condition,
looks almost new from the front save for a bit of corrosion on
the nickel plating. Remember to wipe your guitar down when you
finish playing! A few belt-buckle marks on the rear but
nothing unusual.
Includes original hard case.

1953 Gibson ES125
Gibson's
entry level jazz box throughout the 40s to the 50s and, if
you're after the full, mellow tone of a 50s Gibson jazz
guitar, can live without a cutaway and don't have the
requisite £5000 plus for an early 50s ES-175, this is going
to be the one to look for. The acoustic tone is sweet and
lively, if a little quiet in comparison to a carved top
guitar.
The
guitar has suffered a (long since reglued) loose treble side
brace, resulting in a small amount of table sinkage. It's not
particularly noticeable, and there's no risk of it getting any
worse. It also looks as though a previous owner has learned
the hard way that it's a good idea to loop the end of your
lead through your strap to avoid any disasters when you step
on the lead mid solo - the jack input is mounted into an
oversized plate that hides a missing piece of mahogany where
the jack was originally mounted. Other than that, the usual
Gibson lacquer checking and a set of decent replacement tuners,
condition is good and it's set to go many more years into the
future. SOLD

June 1989
Rickenbacker 381 6-string Fireglo finish - SOLD A
rare and beautiful beast this. The absolute pinnacle of
Rickenbacker's guitar making craft with its deep carved top
and back made from premium charactered maple. The cosmetics
are lavish with chequered binding and shark fin fingerboard
inlays. The action is light and easy and when plugged in the
toaster top pickups impart that tight bright Ricky jangle
magnificently. This guitar, although it has seen a life on the
road, has been well loved and looked after and it wears the
few scars it has earned with pride. Original case included. |
