PSD340
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What type/brand of discs should I buy?
The most important factor in choosing media to use
with the PSD340 is to select discs rated for 1X speed. The PSD340
records in real-time (or 1X speed) directly to the disc. Buy media that
is rated for 1X speed. Because computer CD-R/RW drives have increased to
upwards of 52X write speeds, more media is now rated for high speeds,
without clarifying whether they are suitable for 1X speed.
Select media that specifies 1X speed either on the
package on the disc itself (For example, a CD-R disc might be labeled as
suitable for 1X - 48X speed). Many best selling brands indicate
"up to" a certain speed (for example "up to 52X
speed") without clarifying whether they are rated for 1X speed. Superscope
sells and recommends Sony.
Q. I only want to record a particular section of a
song. Is this possible?
Yes! Producing a "needle-drop" recording
with the PSD340 couldn't be easier. When you have a blank disc in the
CD-R drive and the disc you want to record is in the CD player drive,
select "REC with CD" mode. When the unit is paused, simply use
the CD player controls to locate the track and time where you want
recording to begin.
Q: I want to record an introduction before
I mix in music from a CD. Is this possible?
Yes! Find the location on the CD you want to
record. Pause the CD player. Record to the CD-R drive using microphones.
Whenever you release the pause button on the CD player, CD audio will be
mixed into the recording.
Q. Can I add tracks to a CD I've already recorded?
You can start and stop the PSD340, just like you
would a tape recorder. Every time you stop or pause, you'll be creating
a new track. (You can also create tracks with the TRACK INCREMENT
button). you can take a CD out and put it on a shelf. Put it back in the
unit a month later and add another tracks, as long as you do not
finalize the disc.
Once you finalize a CD-R disc, you cannot add
another track. You can "unfinalize" or erase CD-RW rewritable
discs. The reason you finalize a disc is so it plays back on other CD
players.
NOTE: Some CD players are not able to play
finalized CD-RW discs, but most will play finalized CD-R discs.
Q. Will this unit read my CD+G discs? Can I record
Karaoke performances?
Yes and Yes! Make sure to place the CD+G disc in
the CD player drive and enter the menu to turn the CD_G feature ON. This
will allow CD graphics data to pass through the PSD340's digital output.
Connect some mics and use "REC with CD" mode to record.
Q: Can I add reverb to my vocals?
Sure thing. Press the REV/DLY button to access the
effects menu. You'll be able to add a room reverb, hall reverb, or a
delay effect. It is not possible to layer a reverb and a delay effect.
Choose whichever preset of the three you like best.
Q. I want to determine the tempo of a CD recording.
Will the CD and metronome play at the same time?
Yes. Start the CD first. Then press the Metronome
button. While the CD is playing, you'll be able to adjust the Metronome
tempo, Metronome volume, and CD volume.
Q. After recording long pieces of music, I have to
fast-forward a lot to find the section I want to listen to. Manually
incrementing tracks during recording is not an option. Any suggestions?
Use "Minute Track" record mode. This
mode automatically adds an inaudible track increment every minute during
recording. If the section you wish to review occurs 15 minutes into the
performance, simply scroll to track 15, then press PLAY.
Q. What's the best tuning method?
For individual practice or small group settings,
use the chromatic tuner. This feature detects audio from the inputs or
internal mic and displays the nearest frequency in concert pitch. From
the chromatic tuner display, turn the Select jog wheel to activate the
440Hz tuning tone. This tone will output through the internal speaker
and the Line Out. This method may work best in large group settings
where the PSD340 is connected to a sound system.
Q. How does Record Review work?
Getting an instant review of a recording has never
been easier. After you've recorded a track, press the Record Review
button and the PSD340 will play back the last track recorded. If you
press REC REVIEW during the recording, the PSD340 will automatically
stop, and then play back the last track recorded. You can record and
review your work with just two buttons: RECORD and REC REVIEW!
